Join the Coast Guard

Serving under the Djiboutian flag: requirements, selection, training and career prospects.

PREREQUISITES

Admission requirements

  • Hold Djiboutian nationality and full civic rights.
  • Be aged 18 to 26 on the closing date for applications.
  • Hold a minimum lower-secondary level of education; the baccalaureate is required for officer positions.
  • Meet physical and medical fitness criteria, including swimming ability.
  • Present a clear criminal record.

The selection process

Submit your file

Assemble the administrative file and submit it to the Djibouti City naval base during the application window.

Selection tests

Written tests, physical trials including swimming, a motivation interview and a medical fitness examination.

03

Initial training

Six months at the Djibouti City Naval School: military instruction, maritime safety, navigation, first aid and law of the sea.

PATHWAYS

Specialties

After initial training, sailors are assigned a specialty according to service needs and demonstrated aptitude: navigation and seamanship, marine engineering, communications and radar, diving and rescue, or administration.
